I didn't include much configuration information did I?

Operating system: RedHat linux 7.3
Web server: Apache 1.3.27
Scripting language: PHP 4.1.2
Database server: MySQL 3.23.56
Mail server: Exim 3.36
phpgroupware: 0.9.16.003 taken from Sourceforge

I have realised that having reinstalled phpGroupware we hadn't reset the site wide email setting, so I put in what I think are the correct values and now I get:

 Warning: 31 is not a valid File-Handle resource in /home/hmw/public_html/groupware/email/inc/class.mail_send.inc.php on line 142 Warning: 31 is not a valid File-Handle resource in /home/hmw/public_html/groupware/email/inc/class.mail_send.inc.php on line 148

Your message could not be sent!

The mail server returned:

Array
(
    [code] => 420
    [msg] => lost connection
    [desc] => Lost connection to smtp server.
    [server_chat] =>
c->s: fsockopen(mail.4xtra.com,143,0,,5) ; returned: Resource id #31
s->c: * OK jupiter.webfusion.co.uk DKIMAP4 IMAP Server
c->s: EHLO www.4xtra.com

)

Does this mean that the safe_mode is off & I'm just being a dummy in not setting the email configuartion properly? I'd sort of prefer it to be me rather than phpGroupware!

Subject: Email setup problems

We've recently set up phpGroupware (our second attempt to install it properly). Mostly it seems to be working: we can read email but

1. I can't seem to see any attachments.

2. sending gives the following error

Your message could not be sent!

The mail server returned:

Array ( [code] => 420 [msg] => 0: [desc] => Connection to : failed - could not open socket. [server_chat] => c->s: fsockopen(,25,0,,5) ; returned: )

according to the mailing list this is safe_mode on, so with permission from my ISP, I overrode safe_mode in .htaccess, but the error still occurs.

Any idea where we go from here?

thanks

Chris
