# apt-get install cvsutils
$ cd /path/to/phpgroupware
$ cvschroot :ext:savannah.gnu.org:/cvsroot/phpgroupware
$ cd phpgwapi
$ cvschroot :ext:savannah.gnu.org:/cvsroot/phpgwapi

For any non debian based distro - same commands except for the first line :)
