While it may be true that the security issues were fixed in a backport, the older deb verseion (and the older tarball version for that matter) has many many bugs in usablity and data consistancy that were not backported. Its not only highly recomened to upgrade regraurdless of the security issues, but you'll get very little support until you do. Most of the support you'll need though will have the answer "fixed in newer version, please upgrade". Might as well go ahead and upgrade before you find the bugs that we've already fixed.
