[Phpgroupware-users] Install problems

About to pull my hair out. Boss wants to buy ACT! for several users and
I would like to show phpgroupware as an alternative. But I can't get it
to install!

Using Debian Woody but not the .debs of phpgroupware, using cvs tree as
recommended on the list. Im getting the multiline, "Warning: Access
denied for user: 'address@hidden' (Using password: YES)"
message. Here's what I'm doing:

Changing phpgroupware dir tree to owner and group www-data for
everything (just for now). I have also tried changing to root.

Creating phpgroupware database (using phpmyadmin).

Creating mysql accounts phpgw and phpgroupware both with full grants.
Don't know if both or either users are necessary. The FAQ says one but
the setup seems to have the other.

The header admin page says mysql is there so it is being recognized.

Any ideas?
