it only checks mail so far.

There is a debug feature so you can see the new mail check, Choose Help->Debug-
>Show Notify Window and a small box will open in the upper left.  Turn turn it

just choose your server from the Sevrers menu.  The box will show something
like "action:newmail:58" which simply means there are 58 messages in the INBOX.
It's a very primitive feature but suits my needs.
