Dan,

Pardon my jumping in, but I'm really interested in getting LDAP support to work.

At 18:10 7/1/2003, you wrote:
QMailLDAP should allow you to use OpenLDAP as the accounts database for Qmail. Then you can use phpGW's LDAP support for accounts as well and have them match up. Also in case you arent aware the IMAP server for Qmail is Courier-IMAP which we have support for (works like cyrus imap instead of uwash).

My distro (Mitel SME Server, formerly e-smith) uses qmail, but with UW-Maildir. However, the issue I have is tying phpGW users to the server's users. When running the installation, the step which is supposed to set up phpGW users from the existing LDAP store does not work correctly (there are threads in the archive on this).

One peice of warning is that our LDAP support may not match up perfect and could require adjustments. We are redoing much of our account management to allow for greater stability but that wont show up until the next major version.

Overall I think it can work and would personally be interested in pitching in to help when you run into any issues, since I think this is an important thing for us to document and be able to support as a common environment. We are in need of a clean solution for this kind of thing.

I'd be interested in helping if I can (I'm not a programmer). How does the qmailLDAP application interact with the user accounts on the server? In the distro I'm using, OpenLDAP is used for accounts already, but I'm not clear if it ties into qmail or Samba. The base LDAP support (i.e. the setting up of phpGW users when a new user is added to the server) would be a very positive selling point to develop interest in phpGW with potential clients.

One last hopeful comment is that I hope this can all work with Samba's LDAP support as well and maybe allow windows clients to share the same user/pass when they map to network shares. Wouldnt that be cool :-)

Absolutely!
