What version of moz are you running? 
and OS/distro/version?

I use an fqdn on mozilla for connecting to phpgw - works fine one:
1.0 - windoze 98SE
1.0.1 - windoze 98SE
1.0 - debian woody - stock debs
1.1 - windoze 98SE
