Change the password setting to trust, test if you can connect.
Check the log file for postgresql, for Debian it is in
It will tell you the reason of not connecting.

put the line with phpgroupware in pg_hba.conf before host all line.

I've been created a phpgroupware user with password and the phpgroupware
database with webmin.
So now pgsql start fine with the -i option.
Can you see something

actually the -i specifically for accepting connects over localhost.

To be sure, I checked the doc. The -i option is for accepting TCP/IP


and not just Unix domain sockets ones. I believe this works for both localhost


other interfaces connections, no ?
