This is my understanding of what they are. HELO is for old SMTP (RFC-
822), while EHLO is for ESMTP (RFC-1869). ESMTP servers support both
(to allow for old clients), but SMTP servers support only HELO.
Most mail servers today support ESMTP, if not by default then by
config. What mail server are you using?
