Dear Paolo,

well Phpgw with ldap works. We have it under production working well.
At that moment I lack time to go through a hole explanation.
Some suggestions:
First install phpgw with mysql and be sure it works.
Then install and configure openldap ; insert ou=groups and ou= users
just as an example and create some users with uid=user1,dc=...,dc..
all that independent from phpgw. As a tool you can use java ldapbrowser at
http://www.iit.edu/~gawojar/ldap/
be sure all works.
Some hints on ldap and phpgw:
1. At the configure point in setup "Home" and "shell" for the users insert
something otherwise in 0.9.14RC3 it will break e.g /dev/null
2.schema
The order of the schema nis.schema, core.schema is important
one depends on the other.
3. First deal with plain passwords and leave it to "secret" which is the
default for openldap. We found out in 0.9.14RC3 that even the plain
password didn`t change in the mysql database (>>>phpgw.config ?!)if you try to
change it in the setup step.
(Maybe this has changed)
4. look at the logfiles of sldapd: tail /var/logmessages
All that is not intended for production (e.g password ldap). It is just
the way we tried to eliminated all errors.Maybe this helps
