Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a groupware solution for my church. We
have some pretty particular needs, so I'd like to run
them by you to see if phpGroupware could meet them,
and if anyone has used it in such an environment.

1) We need to have upwards of tens of thousands of
user accounts, automatically generated (from data
exported from our church rolls database)
2) These users need to be placed in groups, with each
user able to be in multiple groups. These groups also
need to be hierarchically organized. (i.e. group A is
a subgroup of group B. Everyone in group A is also
considered to be in group B.)
3) Users need to be able to see content based on which
groups they're enrolled in, including a calendar of
group events.
4) "Administrator" users need to be able to change
calendar content for their group. This should take
advantage of the hierarchy mentioned above (i.e. the
administrator of group A can create content specific
to group A, and the administrator of group B can
create content that appears to everyone in group B,
including subgroups like A)
5) Groups need to be integrated into the e-mail
system, with authorization features.
6) We also need standard groupware features like file
posting, discussion boards, and online forms.
Cross-integration between features would be nice (i.e.
tie a calendar event to a form used to register for
the event)

These are our basic needs. I understand that
phpGroupware provides a lot of these features. My
specific question is this: does it facilitate the kind
of hierarchical group structure described above?

Incidentally, we're also looking for some content
management features, for posting and editing static
HTML. I e-mailed the developer of gwPortal (from
SourceForge) because he seems to be working on such an
application. Are there any other packages that would
provide content management for phpGroupware?

Thanks so much for your feedback!
