i found an ie_ssl.txt file in the felamail/doc (sp) diretory which mentioned 
problems with mentioned the problem. though i don't understand the 
solution...

i also forced ie to not use http 1.1 both in the browser itself, and in the 
httpd.conf file, but still no improvement.
