The patch does include changes to the “class.contacts_sql.inc.php” that works 
fine for me – I have no knowledge of the LDAP-version

To apply the patch for testing – one need the version-0_9_14-branch

Add:
When adding a new contact you get the choice of deciding the ID - or accepting 
the automatic generation of a new ID -
Just like when adding a new project in the “project” application.

The reason for this is for smooth integration with an (any)acoountingsystem.
The ID should generally (I think) not be autonumber – because of the difficulty 
of maintaining the original ID’s when one for some reason is importing data.

It might be an idea to include the user-id in the addressbook-id or introduce a 
"num"  - to avoid possible conflicts when users are adding their own contacts.

Preferences:
You can choose the id-field to be shown in address list - my users like this 
feature - because the vendors are often referred to by their ID.
