Summary: Notify on delivery not wrking with some mail servers

Original Submission: Im opening this as a feature request here cause some have
reported it elsewhere as a bug.

Its important that ppl understand this. Notify on delivery does not work on all
smtp servers cause many either brake or do not support the notify on delivery
header that we are using. Its important that ppl that find this feature needed
for their deployments post as follow up to this bug what server are they using
and relevant information as to how do their smtp server supports Notification.
We want to support as much as possible and will do what we can to support you
all. We just need your help on this.

Mozilla Mail, Outlook 2000, and Evolution's notify (return receipt req)
features all work, and also work cross-platform (say MozillaMail to Outlook and
vice-versa). Even on messages that work with these other clients, no
notification is received via Groupware email. And I do not believe that any
notification request is sent by toggling the checkmark in groupware.
Of course I must also mention that it depends partially (from what I understand
of various mail servers anyway) on the implementation you are trying to
achieve. The only return notification I was able to find in these other email
clients was a "read receipt" from the mail client saying it has been opened by
the mail client (not necessarily actually read by the intended individual).
In other mail systems I have worked with (Exchange, Novell GroupWise, etc)
there has also been another type of notification receipt called "Notify On
Delivery" meaning it has been delivered by the users mail server to their email
box (not necessarily downloaded or opened).
While I have not found this second type of notification (server based not
client based) in these other clients I have been told by my mail administrator
(who is also my brother) that Sendmail comes default with support for both
types of server notification enabled and the client based does in fact work
with these other clients.

say, evolution or mozilla with that same server.

sendmail 8.15.5, Redhat 8.0 Apache 2.0.40. Mail server is running on another
server using same configuration as above.

Also note that notify on delivery has been tested with qmail and sendmail
servers. We NEED to know what are you using as an smtp server.
