Sorry to keep blating this at you but more data has to help ...
I've tried a completely clean install of both RH7 and RH8
and I had the same problem, so I'll concentrate on the info
for RH8. Running Apache2 (RedHat latest RPM), php
4.2.2.8.0.7 (RH RPM), same rev of the RPM's for php-pgsql
and any other php RPM. Postgres is 7.2.3-5.80, again RH RPM.

I get the same error whether I install phpgw from your RPM
or CVS Stable.

I can make a machine with the install available for poking
around if required.

Again, thanks in advance for your help, I'm losing sleep
over not being able to figure it out!

I don't know if this helps: on a system OTHER than the
laptop that has the working version I did the following:
1. Cleared the postgres database files and recreated the
postgres cluster with initdb.
2.. Recreated the phpgroupware database.
3. Reran the phpgroupware setu, all appeared to work properly.
4. Started the app as the admin user and did the top level
setup for the site, for addressbook and for infolog.
5. Entered an address in addressbook and got the same error.
6. Checked infolog, no entries. Tried to make an entry in
infolog and the screen just cleared and went back to phpgw
main screen. Checked infolog again and no entry was made.
Tried this a couple of times, same result.
7. Using phpPgAdmin I checked on the database tables.
There are zero records in phpgw_infolog and
deq_phpgw_infolog is still at sequence 1.
