I would like to suggest that we store all the 
preferences in XML and use a class to read the XML 
into an array. I already have a generic class that can 
be easily adapted (it already knows how to do nested 
arrays, but is not DOM related).

Alternatively, use DOM to read the XML.

I would like to help either by creating something to 
read the XML based on your DTD or be part of the DTD 
generation process and then help w/ the XML 
acquisition/translation.
