Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Amir,

If it helps, connection diagram of the Apogee is very similar to the one of older Umarim boards, see http://wiki.paparazziuav.org/wiki/Umarim_Lite_v2#Examples_of_Airborne_Equipment_Electrical_Connections for examples

Hi Amir,
Usually, external BEC is needed only if you fly an aircraft with big servos and/or a lot of servos (maybe you should give us more information on your aircraft and servo setup)
Anyway, you must power the Apogee with the battery in order to have a correct internal supply production (voltage range 5.5V min17.0v max, so 2 to 4 Lipo cells)
So you will get a correct reading of the battery voltage.

For servo power supply connection, you ave two options :

1) servos are supplied by the Apogee internal 5V (no BEC, default configuration for small aircraft), in this case
--> connect battery on Apogee supply inputs (+ and ground)
--> connect all 3 wires of your servos directly on Apogee, nothing else to do except be sure that the total 5V current consumption do not exceed 1.5A

2) servo are supplied by an external 5V BEC, in this case
--> connect battery on Apogee supply inputs (+ and ground)
--> do not connect the 5V and ground wires of your servos on Apogee (connect only the PWM signal)
--> connect all the servo's 5V & ground wires directly on 5V and ground BEC output

Hope this helps

Hello everyone,
I am enjoying getting my autopilot up and running and every piece of the puzzle that starts to work opens another issue :P which is exciting to figure out. I had issues with my radio and GPS and with the help of you guys all is working now! Thanks again.
Now I have a question regarding the battery monitoring. I was under the impression that it is good practice to power the autopilot with a BEC instead of powering it directly through the battery. The issue with this approach is that the autopilot reads a constant 5 v from the battery all the time. Should I be powering the apogee board directly with the battery? If not, how should I send the battery voltage to the autopilot?
Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Amir
