Hi,

It seems like the JoystickID was probably meant to disambiguate between multiple joystick inputs for the same aircraft to select the currently active one.
I doubt this was ever used by anyone except mantauav.
IMHO we should either completely remove this to make the code and maintenance easier or fully implement and test it.
What do you think?

Cheers, Felix

Hi Felix,

I have integrated the JoystickID function from the modification of mantauav a long time ago, I don't know how them planned to use it.
I don't really see where it can be needed (e.g. do something that you can't with different ac_id or message). At least there is no uplink messages that are using it at the moment.

Hi Stephen,

the logitech_f710.xml joystick file was seemingly not correct:
- the RC_4CH message does not have a joystick_id field
- other messages specified there don't exist
etc...

cleaned the logitech_f710.xml file in master, should work for just the RC part now (you need to adapt it if you want to change some settings through the joystick).
Also added some more meaningful error messages to input2ivy in case something like this happens.

@Gautier, is the JoystickID actually used anywhere?

Cheers, Felix

Hi Guys

Do any of you have experience with initiating a joystick device to  help
me correct this fatal error:

address@hidden:~/paparazzi/sw/ground_segment/joystick
$ ./input2ivy -ac ardrone2_raw logitech_f710.xml
Joystick ID: 129
Fatal error: exception Not_found
address@hidden:~/paparazzi/sw/ground_segment/joystick$

I must note the machine follows NAV startup commands without incident so
far - I just wish to move in and out of NAV mode to test manual controls
using paparazzi.

Regards

Stephen
