Try 

$ export PAPARAZZI_HOME=/home/ub-username/paparazzi

$ export PAPARAZZI_SRC=/home/ub-username/paparazzi

$ make .....

I did this by editing etc/environment, inside this file I have:

$ source /etc/environment
$ echo $PAPARAZZI_HOME

the echo command properly returns the path specified. I then tried the
compilation command:

make -C /home/ub-username/paparazzi -f Makefile.ac AIRCRAFT=ardrone2_raw
ap.compile

It seems I get the exact same error message as before. I'm not sure why, am
I not setting the environmental variables correctly?
