What i mean specially with cheap:
Just buy a Android phone from ebay  for about 20-40$ maximum, it should work with 98% USB OTG shouldn't be required.
If i want a Camera, I'll take a different Smartphone, i'm not good in java programming and don't want to risk something.
This one should only do the main data link.

I think it's better if I connect the Host Shield (MAX3421) direct to the Lisa/mv2 with SPI.
The SPI on the Lisa/mv2 runs on 3,3V or on a different voltage ?

adding ioio board and you have what you want.
But speaking about cheap phone, i have used 90€ phone, 5Mpixel camera, dual sim, rugged outdoor, i can drop it from 1.5mt without problems,
the only drawback is no gps and only 256Mbyte of RAM, but i want a 5Mpixel camera cheaper then 100€ and choose this. It have usb OTG.

I thought the Lisa/m can be used as a usb Host...
I don't want to use the Android smartphone as a hot because not every smartphone can be used this way.
I'll try it with a Host shield and a Arduino.
(as app I'll try to modify Xabber, a xmpp client)
My goal is to use a extremely cheap phone, to get a nearly infinite range with the main data link over the internet conection.

I have tested rooted android phone with camera and Opencv using FTDI usb->serial cable and a usb host adapter  for communication.
So, the answer is definitly yes, but not all Androids phones can do USB Host or USB OTG.
