Yes, I have (but not recently). The deal they offered me was I
manufactured with my own money, and strike a contract with them
agreeing to supply them at a fixed price regardless of quantity. They
would then buy them from me as it suits them, and I had to commit to
certain conditions about supply (lead time / quantity). I suppose they
might use their own money if they percieved it as a higher turnover,
lower risk item.
