Very Interesting Pascal.

Could you give some info on the aircraft - Motor type, A/C flying weight,
takeoff motor amps and cruise motor amps, cruise speed.
What was the total flight duration?

You state a 11.85km 'line of sight' range. At this range there is approx
122dB path loss @ 2.4GHz. I do not know the TX power of the XBees stuff, but
if I assume 500mW ( 27dBM) and a Video receiver typical sensitivity of
around -75dBM then the antenna's used need to make up a gain requirement of
around 20dB's. What antenna's did you use?

We are doing some interesting stuff here in Namibia; using a 1 hour duration
slow composite flyer we designed , carrying a stabilized camera to take
photos of Vultures nesting in tree tops in the Namib Desert, which is then
used by Nature Conservation for the annual Vulture count as a measure of
'health' of the wildlife environment. Really great flying in the wide open
spaces here!

Well done.

 Some numbers:
 - 1800m: altitude of take-off and landing
 - 2400m: highest reached altitude (50m higher than the desired one,
thanks to wind and/or thermals)
 - 11.85km: range reached with standard 2.4Ghz XBees (line of sight)
 - 3: number of lakes seen on the pictures
 - 15km: length of the route
 - 2000mAh: consumed energy (3 cells)
 - 80m: lowest height above the ground, while crossing the pass (2262m)
 - 2: number of ground stations
 - 1: number of megabytes of telemetry logged on board

Today, a Paparazzi equipped Funjet autonomously crossed the Pyrenees
(the mountains in the south-west of France), from North to South:

Some stress while we were waiting (only 2 minutes) for the aircraft to
appear on the GCS at the arrival and ... a lot of fun
