When you got a message like this compiling a package simply means that
you miss some file. In debian/demudi you can search which package
contains that file with the apt-file utility:
$ apt-file search uuid/uuid.h
You will find that the package is in this case uuid-dev (the packages
needed to compile from source have always -dev at the end of the
name).
