Oh, I see. I thought it's just about changing the way, how non-ASCII characters are read, because their codes are correctly represented in UTF-8.

I'd be happy to try working on it, but it really depends on time, since my C++ skills are quite disordered and most of time I'm concentrated on another stuff. Just give me some directions, what should I look for in Octave codes and I'll try. Has anyone started to work on Unicode support in Octave?

Octave has no support for non-ASCII character sets except by accident.
It would take some effort to get Unicode support. Are you interested
in working on this?
