Hmmm I wasn't entirely correct. It didn't point directly to the JDK but again in several steps.
On my Mageia 2 system it is: /usr/lib/jvm/java which first points to symlink: /etc/alternatives/java_sdk which in turn points to symlink: /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.7.0-openjdk which finally points to the actual location: /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.7.0-openjdk-1.7.0.6 (note I have a 32-bit system so there's no .x86_64 suffix here)The first two of those symlink seems to be "constant", the third and following ones are updated upon each Java update by the rpm package manager.
