Let me noodle on it and propose a solution. It is a little different, but shouldn't all THAT hard. I need to better understand the whole test structure better, but it isn't really that complex.

In that case, it might be best to just put the tests in the test
directory.  Or maybe we should modify the testing functions to be able
to handle external files.  I'm not sure what would be best.
