Ole,

The necessary bits of Cygwin are included; 59 files in /bin, including
gnuplot, and its own, separate registry entry; it seems to me that this is
as much a native Win32 application as any other.

Maybe this should be subject to performance measurements to see what
overhead the OS interface introduces, rather than judgements of the
aesthetics?  If the overhead can be shown to be small, the maintenance
advantage of a unique build must be overwhelming.

I do not feel that I have enough knowledge to typical usage or, indeed the
"weighed down" parts of the OS to know how to specify such measurements.
