Details:

Steps to reproduce:

1) On the development branch, start Octave with 'run-octave'
2) Type 'lookfor sound'

This is a slow function but a new figure window will pop up in < 10 seconds.

This weirdness is not present on the stable branch so it is a relatively
recent introduction.
