Follow-up Comment #3, bug #43717 (project octave):

following comment #2, the attached patch changes the default length from 9 to
13.  the change is fairly minor, and seems to be unrelated to any tests, but
as I'm not set up to compile/test someone else should make sure it doesn't
trigger anything unexpected. 

if no issues and there's no intent to mirror matlab's odd length behavior,
could probably push this tweak then close the report.
