Follow-up Comment #7, bug #47405 (project octave):
I'm cleaning up a patch to bug #60574 that will allow 'pkg update' to accept
the same options as install, including -nodeps. that will at least allow this
bug to be sidestepped for now, but at the risk of updating something that
breaks because of dependencies. but yes, a smarter system would be better.
