Follow-up Comment #2:

Confirmed.  I meant to acknowledge this earlier.  The points in comment #1 are
entirely correct.  Probably a deep overhaul of the internal API around structs
would be best.  Changing the release to "dev" since work of this magnitude
will need to happen there.
