Follow-up Comment #21:

I changed the priority of top-level headers by re-ordering the parameter lists
to OCTAVE_CHECK_LIB in this changeset

I removed the search for Suitesparse headers in the ancient ufsparse directory
by removing those instances from the parameter list of OCTAVE_CHECK_LIB in
this changeset http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/73db3b4d2188.

Everything seems to have been completed for this report so I'm closing it.
