Follow-up Comment #3, bug #60157 (project octave):

Regular expressions aren't supported and that is why they are not mentioned. 
I only referenced them as a way of understanding how the [ LIST ] feature
works.  The documentation is correct that this is the complete list of
accepted wildcard characters.
