Follow-up Comment #1, bug #59023 (project octave):

Sorry about the incompatibility with previous versions of Octave.

In Matlab, the class of an inline function is also "inline".  So this is a
compatibility improvement.

Also in Matlab, the "inline" function seems to no longer appear in the online
docs on the web, though it does still exist.  Help for inline says that it
will be removed in a future version.

Yes, it should probably be mentioned in the NEWS file.
