Follow-up Comment #2:

While making the release candidate, I thought again about whether we should
update or not and decided that it was better to update the release-octave
target to use the release candidate.  So I applied the patch for sundials and
made some additional changes so that now the octave-release target is building
6.0.90 using the sources from alpha.gnu.org.

Closing this report as fixed.
