Follow-up Comment #1:
Since you're using the development version, can you build Octave with
debugging symbols and then run octave under gdb so you can capture a backtrace
(gdb command 'bt') when Octave crashes?
The Octave code base is pretty large so we need a clue, provide by the
backtrace, about where to begin looking.
