Follow-up Comment #2:
This function is actually very similar to the 'hist3' function, which is
Matlab compatible and is already part of the Octave statistics package.
I'd suggest that you try using the 'hist3' function, and if there are any
features missing or things that aren't working quite right compared to the
function you wrote, please try to help improve the 'hist3' function.
I just plotted some random data with 'hist3' and I got a plot very similar to
the plots shown in the sample images here (with the "facecolor" property set
to "interp").
I'm going to close this as won't fix, but do feel free to continue to develop
your function or report bugs against the 'hist3' function, and thanks for your
contribution!
