Follow-up Comment #2, bug #57548 (project octave):
updating java to 1.8 is quite simple and painless: download from java.com,
unpack the (only ~80Mb) tarball, set JAVA_HOME. This fixes the build issue for
me.
This is on RHEL 6.10 server.
