Details:

For years we have been used to "paperpositionmode" being "manual" for ML
compatibility. This was counterintuitive though: people were expecting that a
larger figure onscreen would lead to an equivalently larger figure in
printout. 

Now ML seems to have switched to "auto" as the default [1] and I'd like to do
the same in Octave. This would be more intuitive (and eventually ML
compatible).
