Follow-up Comment #9, bug #43549 (project octave):

I think a change like the one attached to this comment is needed for all the
functions that move/add/delete selected items.  I'm not an expert with these
item list model view things in Qt, but the current functions seem overly
complicated to me and don't appear to do the right thing.
