Details:

I want to use Octave with Sauer's Numerical Analysis text, but the animated
examples won't work without the animatedLine() function.  I have no idea how
difficult it would be to implement animatedline() using OpenGL or gnuplot, so
if there's a straightforward method for converting code that uses
animatedline() to some other format I'd do that.
