Follow-up Comment #4, bug #56569 (project octave):
It could be due to a broken blas library.
You can try running the affected octave with different blas e.g.:
reference blas
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib64/libblas.so.3 octave
atlas
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib64/atlas/libtatlas.so octave
etc...
