Follow-up Comment #8:
No answer so I went ahead and checked in a changeset here
(https://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/47c0b11da31a). I renamed
"x_is_range" to "equal_bin_spacing" for clarity. I also changed the threshold
which switches between the old and new algorithms from 26 to 11 based on
performance testing on my machine.
Marking as fixed and closing report.
