Indeed, you could do as you indicate with mhrecoll. Here is an example
of that.
$ mhrecoll recipient:nmh-workers date:2019-09-09/
$ scan +recoll -width 72

But you can also search other files, such as the mhrecoll Python files,
which are inside zip files and not attached to emails.
$ mhrecoll rfc822 recoll external_body
$ scan -width 72
1 12Aug krullen __init__.py<<Content-Type: text/x-python
2 12Aug krullen mhrecoll/__init__.py<<#!/usr/bin/env pyth
3+ Sun krullen mhrecoll/__init__.py<<#!/usr/bin/env pyth
