[Nel] Starting out with NeL

Hey folks, I've got a general purpose question for you folks who're a bit
more experianced than I am.
I am currently heading up a team working in a smaller PSW (Persistant State
World) MORPG. We're not naieve enough to think we'll be an MMORPG, we're
aiming for a player count of 100-200 or fewer players connected at once.

Unfortunately, since this isn't a commercial venture, investment capital is
very minimal, which means we are going to have to look at any *free* tools
we can find. Of all the free 3D engines and authoring software I've looked
at so far, very few of them support multiplayer gameplay, and even fewer
support more than 32 players.
(Torgue supports 128, which would work for us, but it's $100 per
developer)...

So... I have a few questions about NeL, since it's open-source status means
there's no cost and no royalties as long as we abide by the GPL liscense.

I myself am fairly good with C++ programming, and have someone who is
nearing expert level. I also have someone for 3D content. What I'd like to
know from you guys is what tools will be required to develop both server and
client-side content and code when using NeL?
What compilers will we need (If other than C++)? What 3D asset formats are
supported? What tools do you folks use, and which are free?

Any help or suggestions here would be appreciated!
Later!
