Have you tried qct? Presumably other similar tools provide similar
functionality.
I guess darcs first had this kind of feature; I'm a bit surprised it
hasn't been picked up more widely by other systems. (git has a
reasonably complete implementation, presumably helped by it having a
staging area for commits, awkwardly called "the index".)
