Thanks for your trust. But yeah, you are right, lots of monotone's 
commands still lock the database. The common fix is having multiple 
copies of the database, synchronizing between them.

We are aware of the problem, but so far nobody came up with an elegant 
solution, yet. IMO, part of the problem is Sqlite. Others certainly 
disagree ;-)
