You can run 2+ Monit instances on the same machine - create new monit configuration file and customize the following statements:

set idfile <path>
set statefile <path>
set pidfile <path>

You can pass the configuration file to second Monit instance using "-c" option.

Martin

Ok, can this be solved from the monit side (not mmonit) in the meantime?  What I had in mind was running two monit instances, both with web access.  I would put the less critical services on monit instance 1 and the critical ones on monit instance 2.  And t hen give the less trusted person access to the web access of monit instance 1 only.  So basically what I am wonder is if its possible to run 2 monit instances on a single machine?

Hi,

we will extend the access control in the future - it will allow to set per-user virtual view of hosts and services and set admin rights for services, separate collector role, etc.

Martin

I think this is a very good point. Even that there is no dedicated user for the collector which is only able to ship data to the M/Monit instance is not a good decision. For small environments the whole thing maybe fine, but as the environment and the staff grows there will be definitely a need for more fine granulated access rights.

Hi, we purchased mmonit and are using it but I was wondering if there is any form of access control?  I see you can make some one an admin or not but that is all i can find.

I would like to give a certain user access to certain services (and/or hosts).  For example. if an intern was to be given control of fixing a non-critical down service but the company didnt want to give them the ability to stop or restart a critical service.

Thanks
