OK, that explains the problem :) It's monit-5.5, not monit-5.5.1 - the "monit-5.5-..." part in the rpm name is monit version, the "...-1.el5.rf.i386.rpm" is rpm package version not related to monit.

Hi Martin,

I'm using the pre built rpm from repoforge named monit-5.5-1.el5.rf.i386.rpm. I'll try to reduce the monit config to a testcase

Hi Nick,

i'm unable to reproduce the problem, using this configuration:

--8<--
set daemon 5

set mailserver xyz
set alert address@hidden

check system $HOST
--8<--

The $HOST was expanded to the hostname and mail delivered.

Few questions:
1.) was your monit binary compiled from source or is it pre-compiled version?
2.) please can you send your monit configuration?

Regards,
Martin

localhost postfix/smtpd[9141]: warning: Illegal address syntax from localhost.localdomain[127.0.0.1] in MAIL command: <address@hidden>
