You can get recent builds (monit 5.4) for CentOS/RHEL from RPMForge
(http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories/RPMForge). Keep in
mind that you could run into problems if you have both EPEL and RPMForge
repos on the same system, so if you must do that I would use the yum
"includepkgs" and "exclude" directives. Also note that the RPMForge version
makes some changes, specifically the default config file is at
/etc/monit.conf rather than /etc/monitrc....
